The Nordic Ecolabel

The Nordic Ecolabel is an environmental certification which reflects a product's effect on the environment - from its 'birth' as a raw material through its entire lifecycle until it becomes waste and beyond. The Nordic Ecolabel has demands in terms of resource use in the production process, packaging, disposal and the presence of environmentally damaging and harmful substances in the product. Buying a Nordic Ecolabelled product guarantees that both health and quality issues have been taken into account and that the product is among the least environmentally damaging in terms of chemicals and other harmful substances within its category. From 1st May 2007, it was agreed that Nordic Ecolabelled cosmetics must not contain parabens.

ECOCERT

ECOCERT is a French certification body for organic cosmetics and one that is used in more than 80 countries. Products labelled with ECOCERT must declare the percentage of ingredients that are organic. In order to achieve the organic certification, 10% of the ingredients must be organic and 95% should be natural origin substances. ECOCERT is your guarantee that there has been no animal testing and that the product does not contain pollutants, irradiated ingredients and synthetic colours, fragrances, antioxidants, emollients, oils, grease or silicone. At the same time, the certification has strict requirements for product packaging and marketing. Recycled materials are encouraged and PVC, polystyrene foam or spray in gas form are not permitted. Product marketing must be pre-approved.
